Kauai ~ Our Last Few Days

February 19th to February 23rd

If I don't make these posts a bit shorter, it will take me forever! :D So, I'm lumping Wednesday through Sunday all in one post and it will be a story told in pictures. But first, if I haven't said it already, Hawaii is such a magical place for me. It was such a lovely trip and even doing things I've done before on Kauai feels like doing them for the first time. If you have ever even thought of going, do it. It's not cheap but it's so worth it.

I love this little map. Obviously it's not all encompassing but it hits some good stuff here.

Who knew Goat Yoga could be so fun? 808 Goat Yoga is in Anahola (see map - just a bit north of where we stayed). What a beautiful homestead! We were overlooking Kalalea Mountain also known as Pregnant Woman as it looks like a pregnant woman lying on her back with her hands clasped above her belly. Do you see it? Here are some things we learned about the mountain: Kalalea Mountain is said to be a loving embodiment of the fertile and divine feminine as well as a powerful portal on Mother Earth. It is also know as Kong (or King Kong) Mountain as some say it resembles King Kong's head. What do you see?

A nice quick lookout. Fun fact, when I was here in 2001, we arrived at the tail end of a 2 week period of torrential rain. These falls looked so different. Instead of the 2 distinct falls you see here, it was one very large rushing waterfall. What a sight! We only had postcards in town to compare it to what it usually looked like.

Russell's is a cute little vegetarian place in Wailua. We enjoyed smoothies and jalapeno poppers.

Our last evening on the island and what a night! Dinner on the beach at the Lava Lava Beach Club. It was perfect!

My favorite part of the trip! Being able to see the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles resting on Poipu Beach was an honor. These waters are calm and warm so the turtles have chosen this spot to sprawl out. They've been coming here for hundreds (yes, hundreds!) of years. They swim in around dusk and each night and most stay until just before dawn. Sometimes hundreds at a time, sometimes 40-60. They come to rest and bask in the sun. These turtles are so beautiful! This moment brought tears to my eyes! And knowing they are endangered breaks my heart. I give a huge shout out to the volunteers that come every night to educate visitors and ensure their protection. This was the perfect ending to a perfect vacation. a hui hou nō

I'm taking a break from my travel experience to catch you up on some health stuff. It's been almost 2 months since I've started Tamoxifen...
